Classic For Moms Diaper Bag Tutorial

Here is a helpful picture tutorial on how to make the Classic For Moms Diaper Bag. (This is not the actual pattern, just helpful photos and tips. You still must purchase the pattern to complete the bag.) This tutorial is included in the PDF Classic For Moms Diaper Bag Pattern & is available HERE.

    The changing flap seems a little small for changing an infant. Do you have any suggestions how this can be made longer?

    Try this....
    Cut one each of batting, fabric and PUL (a water resistant fabric) about 13" wide by 26" long. Layer the fabrics together (batting between fabrics). Sew around all sides leaving an opening for turning. Turn right sides out. Sew opening closed.
    Sew a long piece of hook and loop tape on the inside of the fold out flap(close to the edge that folds out) and on the fabric side of the rectangle you just made. The fabric rectangle is detachable and washable, and will fold up and store inside the flap.

    I am stuck on the first t20 zippers it says to sew them to the fusible fleece but the picture shows it sewn to the material which is correct much help is needed. Thank you

    Sue is out of town, but she said:
    First: Iron the fleece to the fabric.
    Second: Sew the zipper to the fabric

      It did help I had just miss read the pattern but many thanks. I do have another problem, the pattern didn't come with the instructions for the handles. I do however know how to make them but would like the complete pattern.

    Should I have a raw edge on the inside zipper flap when finished and my lining has a raw edge showing??????

    Hi - There should not be any raw edges showing on the outside of the bag. See step 22 above. It could be the zipper flap was sewn in upside down.

      I have the same thing on the inside of the bag where the zipper flap is, it has a raw edge showing where the zipper band is. You cant see it when the bag is right side out. Still bothers me Ill have to figure out something. Step 22 shows the same thing

    Just wanted to clarify: The fusible interfacing goes on the main body pieces of the bag and then the fusible fleece goes on top of the interfacing, correct?

    Hi Rachel -
    You are correct. The interfacing gives the bag a nice polished finish and the interfacing adds body. On a side note I recentl made some bags using Annie's Soft and Stable as the interfacing and loved the result. Gives the bag lots of body.

    On the zipper flaps, is there not a matching fabric for the underside? Just want to make sure I’m not missing that.

    The zipper flaps do have fabric on both sides (see step 17 above). The zipper bands do not (step 22). Hope this helps!
